I’m Garrett Washington, a sociologist, policy researcher, and advocate committed to building equitable futures. My work bridges research and lived experience, centering the marginalized, challenging structural inequalities, and creating realities where communities are empowered to thrive.
Whether I’m facilitating community projects, mentoring students, or conducting ethnographic research, I believe that deep change starts with deep listening—and bold action.
Let’s reimagine what’s possible—together.
What is this
I see that this site is a place to gather my work, research, and reflections publicly. It holds both the academic and the personal—the field notes, the photo essays, the classroom projects, and the ideas still taking shape (much more to come). I study how systems of power manifest in everyday life, particularly in rural areas that are often overlooked. Here, you’ll find pieces of that journey: from Oklahoma to Namibia to California, from sociology to community work. This aims to be both a record and a conversation about justice, margins, and the many ways we come to know the world.
In addition to this lengthy blurb above, this also functions as a Sug (Brown Sugar Washington) fan page.
